World Builders

By Johnna Adams

Directed by Mark Cajigao

May 30th - June 1st

7:30pm

River's Edge Theatre Co Studio, Hastings-on-Hudson

Max and Whitney live in their own, imaginary worlds. They are both patients in a clinical trial experimenting with a new drug – a treatment that will cure them of their schizophrenic dreams and flights of fancy – that will make them functioning members of society. As the pills take effect their fantasies fade. And amidst their struggles to preserve their illusions they fall in love. Max and Whitney must choose between a love that is real and the worlds that they have built. World Builders is a dark comedy that is both heartfelt and philosophical, asking audience members to reconsider their own realities, sense of self, and what it means to truly love another.

HOMEGROWN SHAKESPEARE:

Romeo + Juliet

July 19th at 4pm and 7:30pm

July 20th at 4pm

Bethany Arts Community, Ossining (INDOORS)

Shakespeare never looked so sustainable! Earth conscious actors agree to a theatrical feat for the planet. Forbidden to rehearse with one another, each actor must craft their own character, costume, and props in the privacy of their own home with sustainability in mind. Nothing can be purchased. Use of recycled materials is encouraged. Coming together for the first time on the weekend of the show, these actors perform onstage in front of a live audience. NO HOLDS BARD! Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Why Romeo and Juliet? This timeless tale of forbidden love, family divides, and impassioned ideals resonates in today’s world where divisions run deep, and differences often lead to conflict. The story challenges us to look at the power struggles and misunderstandings of Shakespeare’s time through a modern lens, asking how we can bridge divides and make room for unity. As the young lovers defy the forces pulling them apart, we’re reminded that empathy, courage, and love have the power to break cycles of discord and inspire real change.
